Abstract
This paper explores the Anointing at Bethany in the Gospel of Matthew as it has been interpreted through historical-critical and narrative critical methods. Neither of these methods is sufficient for finding the fullest meaning. A liturgical interpretation demonstrates that this passage is an enactment of the Lord's supper, and support for this interpretive method is supplied.
