Abstract
In the United States of America, the topic of immigration often conjures controversial discussions or thoughts leading to political stances. Immigration is also a pressing topic of conversation for many Catholics experiencing an influx of immigrants arriving to a community. While there are different political and social understandings of immigration within society, Catholic social teaching asserts that immigration is a human right and argues that a person migrates in response to violations of the human dignity of the individual, isolation from relationships, and inadequate economic conditions. This paper explains that a person migrates for economic and relational purposes, because the individual person asserts her or his dignity through the pursuit of basic economic needs and relational needs with God and other human beings.
