Abstract

A study of the Christological dimensions of the writings of St. Irenaeus of Lyons. The paper examines three theological concepts later stated directly in the creedal statements of Nicea and Chalcedon: 1. The pre-existence of the Word of God, who incarnated is Jesus Christ. 2. The fullness of the Incarnation, and the early development of the dual natures of Jesus Christ. 3. The concept of recapitulation as the essence of the Irenaean Soteriology.
