Abstract

This paper uncovers comments, thoughts, ideas and official Church statements regarding the role and the placement of the 'assembly and altar ' in the Eucharistic liturgy and its relationship to one another. Undoubtedly, 'active participation' of all who gather for worship was and is essential These common threads existed since the early days of ORATE FRATRES in 1926, although perhaps not by official Church statements or documents. As time progressed, these threads continued to surface in various WORSHIP articles, statements such as GUIDING PRINCIPLES FOR DESIGNING AND BUILDING A CHURCH IN THE SPIRIT OF THE ROMAN LITURGY, official Church documents such as SACROSANCTUM CONCILIUM, ENVIRONMENT and ART in CATHOLIC WORSHIP, BUILT of LIVING STONES and culminating in the most recent General Instruction of the Roman Missal (2003).
