Abstract
In her new book, Introducing the Practice of Ministry, Kathleen Cahalan argues that the call to discipleship is the fundamental vocation of all Christians and that ministry exists in the churches to serve the life of discipleship. But some ask, “What is discipleship and what is ministry? How can we understand what our roles are? What is shared and what is distinctive about these vocations? Why should we concern ourselves with these vocations?” This session will examine a theology of vocation as it relates to both discipleship and ministry.
Kathleen A. Cahalan is associate professor of Theology at Saint John’s School of Theology∙Seminary. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Divinity School. Cahalan is the author of Introducing the Practice of Ministry (Liturgical Press, 2010), and Formed in the Image of Christ: The Sacramental-Moral Theology of Bernard Häring (Liturgical Press, 2004), which was awarded second place for theology in the 2005 Catholic Press Awards.
