Abstract

Often relegated to the realm of childhood and fantasy, the imagination gets a bad rap. The last thought most may consider is the impact of the imagination upon the experience of faith. But there are great connections to be discovered. This Theology Day will examine these connections and explore thought about the imagination and its role in the human experience of faith, the relationship of Christ to each of us and to all of us, and how, by employing the imagination, we engage the journey of becoming.

Dr. Larry Fraher, Ph.D. has served in ministry for over 30 years at parish, school, diocesan, and university levels. He holds a BA in Theological Studies and a MA in Systematics, both from Saint John’s University. He also holds a Ph.D. in Art and Religion from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, CA, where he wrote his dissertation on the imagination as the principal faculty in faith formation. Dr. Fraher is currently the Director of Faith Formation & Education at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Scottsdale, AZ and an adjunct faculty member at Arizona’s two Catholic universities: Benedictine University-Mesa, AZ and the University of Mary’s Mary College in Tempe, AZ.
