Abstract
Using primarily the Eighth Book: The Spirit of Anger from Cassian's Institutes and the Fifth Conference: On the Eight Principal Vices of Cassian's Conferences, this project explores Cassian's radical position that anger must be completely uprooted from the human heart. It introduces Cassian's teaching within his historical and theoretical context, lifts up Cassian's primary emphasis of purity of heart and surveys Cassian's understanding of the proper and improper uses of anger.
