Abstract
In this essay I will first be addressing the relation between Johannes Baptist Metz’s Poverty of Spirit and college life. This will lead into an examination of how embracing poverty of spirit influences interpersonal relationships, and finally a call to the Church to encourage healthy dating relationships to foster spiritual development and poverty of spirit within romantic relationships. This paper will explore a Christian understanding of what it means to embrace poverty of spirit in college, and how the Church can show how poverty of spirit should affect dating relationships.
