Abstract

This panel discussion is focused on how student-led research and community organizing plays a central role in Native American boarding school truth and healing at CSB+SJU. The panel features Joe LaGarde, a White Earth elder and next-of-kin to John Parker, whose remains were recently returned to White Earth 134 years after he died while attending the St. John's Industrial School. Joining Joe LaGarde are Moses Wiseman (SJU '23) , Adri Warden (CSB '22), Faith Gronda (CSB '22), and Marissa Johnson (CSB '22), co-founders of CSB+SJU's Indigenous Students Association. These young alum led the call for our institutions to respond its boarding school legacies, work that is still transforming our communities today. The panel is facilitated by Ted Gordon, director of the Initiative for Native Nation Relations.
