Abstract
A presentation to a group of alumni tracing the origins of rock and roll from the 1200s to 1955. Alan Freed, a disc jockey on Cleveland station WJW, in 1951 coined the term "Rock n' Roll" and described it as a “river of music" which “absorbed many streams: rhythm and blues, jazz, ragtime, cowboy songs, country songs, folk songs” all contributing “to the big beat.” But wait! There's more.
