Abstract
This article explores the influence of gender on resistance training adherence in female athletes and presents strategies to improve adherence. Recent research, including some original data presented in this article, supports the existence of gender differences in resistance training adherence and suggests that one contributing factor is the perceived masculinity of intense resistance training. A theoretical connection is made between the two using social-cognitive theory.
