Description
This talk will explore with as much honesty as possible the very real cultural adjustments that individuals may face when they come to work or teach at a Benedictine institution. Using feedback provided by recently hired employees at Saint Anselm and anecdotes garnered from three decades of experience, the speaker will consider the various responses people actually have to the Benedictine culture, responses which can range from curiosity, as in “Oh? my God” to shock, as in “Oh my God!” to possibly even spiritual contentedness, as in “Oh, My God!” Being mindful of these potential responses and the various levels of worry, indifference, or excitement they contain, can help Benedictine institutions better welcome and integrate individuals into their missions.
