Abstract
The Scriptures tell us that God has placed particular talents and abilities in every one of us, and that we are expected to do something with them. So how well do we recognize, develop, and use these gifts at every stage of our lives? Stewardship is not simply about caring for the land or contributing to our parish collections. It is especially about living this biblical call to use God’s gifts within us, and helping to build a world that more closely reflects the love and mercy, the justice and peace of God.
Dr. Bernard Evans is on the faculty at Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary where he serves as Associate for Faculty and occupies the Virgil Michael Ecumenical Chair in Rural Social Ministries. Evans teaches courses on Christian social ethics, environmental theology and ministry in rural communities. His most recent publications include the books Lazarus at the Table: Catholics and Social Justice (2006); Vote Catholic? Beyond the Political Din (2008); and, Stewardship: Living a Biblical Call (2014), all published by the Liturgical Press.
