Abstract

This paper examines the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. The feast of the Immaculate Conception is one of the most misunderstood in the Catholic liturgical celebrations. The purpose of this paper is to examine the various stages of the development of the dogma, history of the feast, liturgical celebrations of the past and the present, and its ecumenical implications.
