Abstract

This presentation examines the language and actions expressive of mercy as found in the Rule of Benedict. After a brief introduction placing Benedict’s teaching in context, Fr Columba speaks about key terminology (merces and misericordia), the practical exercise of mercy in hospitality (RB 53), and the personal experience of mercy in compunction, tears, and gratitude.
