Abstract
“The government of Felipe Gonzalez and the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) is coming to an end. The one question still remaining is whether the elections, which they will inevitably lose, will be held in 1996 or at their latest possible date in 1997. The only other uncertainty is whether Gonzalez himself will carry the party standard to the defeat or whether he will step aside before the elections and allow another PSOE leader to carry the burden of failure.” (page 193)
