Abstract
Lt. Colonel Mark Vande Hei earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics from St. John’s University (1989), ROTC commissioning in the U.S. Army, and a Master of Science degree in Applied Physics from Stanford University (1999). Mark has served and trained in many locations around the world, and taught Physics at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York. Joining NASA’s Mission Control Center in 2006, Mark specialized in spacecraft communications. He was selected in 2009 as a member of the 20th NASA astronaut class, completed his training in June, 2011, and is now qualified for future flight assignments. Mark’s visit to SJU on 1/31/12 – 2/1/12 included three group presentations: “Pizza with an Astronaut," "The Dream is Alive," and "How I got from CSB/SJU to NASA" with the MAPCORES First-Year Seminar class.
