Abstract
This presentation will introduce the history of the detainment of people of Japanese descent in concentration camps during the early 1940s following an executive order by Roosevelt. I will also contextualize comments made by Trump and surrogates who have cited the Supreme Court's upholding as constitutional the executive order (Korematsu vs. US) as a legal precedent for creating a registry of Muslims. In doing so, they are attempting to normalize such measures.
