Abstract
In the last several years, German authors have reconsidered the experience of German civilians during the WWII in an effort to recapture and describe the horrific character of air raids and vast refugee movements. These publications have fueled discussion in Germany and other countries on the issues of German suffering and victimization during the war. This presentation will provide an overview of the current debates, some historical background on the war and early postwar years, and commentary on historical and ethical perspectives on the topic.
