Abstract
Data were collected from files of 129 children who had been administered the WISC-R and whose mothers had completed the Personality Inventory for Children. A prior high correlation between the Somatic Concern scale and WISC-R Third Factor was not replicated, but the cognitive triad of the Personality Inventory for Children correlated -.49 to -.27 with all the WISC-R IQs. Comparing a two-subtest (Arithmetic, Digit Span) Third Factor versus the traditional three-subtest triad produced comparable results, supporting the redefined Third Factor of the WISC-III.
