Abstract

This lecture explores the significance of the Joint Ecumenical Commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation, and the celebratory points of 50 years of Lutheran-Catholic dialogue. Memories are the key not to the past, but to the future. In what spirit shall we commemorate this anniversary together? What can the experience of the Reformation teach us today? How might we recommit ourselves to give a common witness to the mercy of God in service to the world?
